Drotto Bunk Trailer Install

Video of the Drotto Bunk Trailer Install .

In this Drotto Bunk Trailer Install video we demonstrate how to install the Drotto boat latch on a bunk trailer. The Drotto boat latch is designed to replace the bow roller of your bunk trailer or roller trailer. There are many models and styles and variations of bow roller setups. Our Drotto boat latch is designed to replace your bow roller according to size. The 3″ model replaces your 3″ bow roller and the 3 3/4″ model is designed to replace a bow roller between 3 3/4″ and 4″ ( just add spacers or washers for larger rollers). The Drotto Bunk Trailer Install is simple in most cases. See below for further details on the Drotto Bunk Trailer Install process.

Step 1

Locate the bow roller on your trailer. Here are only a few examples of bow roller setups below.

There are a number of different trailers. BUNK trailers and ROLLER trailers. The Drotto boat latch works on both styles of trailers. There are also a number of different bow rollers. The Drotto boat latch is designed to fit on the 3″, 3 3/4″ – 4″. refer to the “Drotto Boat Latch Sizes page” to learn how to measure your bow roller.

Step 2

Release the boat into the water. It is hard to move a boat on a bunk trailer, therefore we suggest simply launching the boat into the water.

Step 3

Remove the single bolt holding the front roller on the trailer and remove the roller. Once roller is removed, replace it with the latch. Tighten the bolt snug, but not fully tight yet. Keep slightly loose so the latch can move just a little.

Step 4

Drive the boat back up onto the trailer. Pull into the latch just above idle until you hear the click. Once you hear the click you know the latch has secured and locked the boat to the trailer.

Step 5

Pull forward into the dry water’s edge and tighten the bolt for a secure fit. (Please note the latch should be able to pivot slightly when you apply force, but do NOT leave floppy loose.)

Double Roller Bow Stop Install

drotto compatability

Here is a good visual if you have a double roller bow stop. In this version, simply remove the top roller, install the latch in place of the top roller and adjust the winch arm to line up the bow eye with the latching system. Another option is to remove the double bow stop completely and install the latch directly to the winch post.

This is the best accessory I have added to my boating experience. I fish on my own quite a bit, and it is a game changer for loading and unloading. When you fish with others, it is even easier to get in, get loaded and get going...trust me, you will love it!

The DROTTO would not work on my boat which is Caroline Skiff 21' with the double bow. I talked to Rob at Boat2trailer.com and he said it would not work on my boat. I decided to lower my boat bow eye and it worked great. This Drotto is a game changer. I can now drive the boat up and listen for the click and step off the boat and hook up the safety chase and drive away to the staging area and finish. If this will fit your boat (or you have to modify it) I would highly recommend this product. I am 80 years old and launch and recover my boat alone very safely now.

Truly a game changer. On and off the trailer super quick. No more leaning over the boat to crank it up! I’ll never own a boat without a boat2trailer again!!

Boat latch seems to be well made. I had to adjust the winch tower to accomadate the latch and boat position on the bunks. Once that was accomplished this product is great for self loading. I used to climb a tailgate ladder then walk out on the tongue to latch my boat. With this latch I just drive on the trailer up to the latch until it clicks. Then I can pull the trailer out and finish securing the boat. Wish I had it 20 years ago!

Installed it this week and finally got to try it today. Works awesome. I usually have people with me to help so I placed the lever against my winch handle and turned it putting pressure on release handle. It let the boat slide off perfect while they held my lines. When I returned for the day I drove it on slowly and as soon as it hit the latch it locked it on. Very impressed so far. I have a SeaVee 260B. I was a little concerned being that all the videos showed lighter boats. Happy Customer.

One of the best additions to my boat. Installed in less than 20 minutes. Time will be the true test. So far so good. Works great. Bit of a learning curve on trailer depth.

I have only used it once but I loaded up and she snapped right in place and then away we went. No more cranking that heavy boat up.

I bought this last year and have loaded and unloaded my boat maybe 50 times since installing it. I am happy with it overall but I do have too mention to make sure you hook a safety chain to the boat before you pull up from the landing. I seriously wrecked my prop and lower unit because it didn’t lock. This unit has failed to lock on four other occasions. As long as I attached the safety chain on before I pull up the landing, I feel safe. Other than that, I am very happy with the unit. It does leave white markings on the front of the boat when you drive up to lock it.
