Bow Roller

Bow Roller

Bow rollers are extremely common on boat trailers. They are usually a bell shape or a rubber V. They are typically made of thermal plasticized rubber (TPR) or essentially rubber. Bow rollers are installed on the front bracket of the winch stand of the trailer. The roller enables the boat to secure against the trailer. The problem with bow rollers is they do not last very long, sometimes mark up the boat and they only serve one purpose. The purpose is to give the boat something to rest against. Many boat owners replace the bow roller every year or two. With a price tag anywhere from $12 to $50, that can add up over the years. So other than buying another bow roller every year what is another option?

Bow Roller Replacement

Bow Roller Replacement on Boat2Trailer

Basically the idea is simple. Replace your existing bow roller with the automatic boat latch on Boat2Trailer. Why is it called an automatic boat latch? Look in the photo above. The latch has a set of jaws or a clamp that will automatically snap shut and lock onto the existing bow eye of a boat. If you are interested in knowing more about how it works CLICK HERE. The bow roller replacement is a no-brainer in many ways. It’s durability is unmatched compared to a bow roller. It is composed of an incredibly long lasting UHMW plastic. The plastic shield helps prevent wear and tear on your boat and the latch as well. If after 10 years you decide to replace the plastic shield, it is a quick replacement process and only takes a few screws. The latch is not a one size fits all, but pretty darn close. It only comes in 2 sizes. Essentially one replaces a smaller roller and one replaces a bigger roller. Here is a link to our page showing what and where to measure to know what size you would need to replace your bow roller Click Here. The automatic boat latch has so many benefits over a common roller it is hard to describe them all in one page. This rating has every opportunity to climb to a four as I get confidence in loading. The last couple of latchings have been far less dramatic then the first few fearful attempts. I find that you cannot load to the latch by being timid. The difference between power loading and loading with power is a fine line and takes throttle and boat control. The first few attempts either fell way short or were a dramatic smash and grab. It's the latter that caused me the greatest concern. (What if I miss?) In addition I find that steep launch facilities leave the stern floating over the load guides. In a case like that I have so far chosen to winch it in by hand from a less submerged position which leaves the bunks too far out of the water. The reason I would not give this product a five has more to do with my fears than anything else. The product requires a certain amount of boat mastery to accomplish latching. Shipping, customer service, and product quality and design are all fives. The risk of a missed latch and damaging my boat are the negatives in this case. Two years later...I've since replaced the boat. Having proper load guides made all the difference in guiding the boat to consistent successful hook ups. I'm changing the review to 5 stars. And adding the comment to let users know that without effective load guides it can be a challenge to get the bow eye hooked. But for now/ I love it!

The Drotto latch works perfectly! Pull the rope and slide iff the trailer. Drive up and into the latch and I’m done. Makes launching & loading a breeze.

This Drotto catch and release latch is great. I ordered it and it said 10-14 days to ship. Good deal. The next day, I received an email from Boat2Trailer that my order had been shipped. I received the package the day after. Item was as described and very easy to install. Works flawlessly and I am very happy with this product. I installed it on a 2018 Bass Tracker 190. This thing really cuts down time on the ramp loading up. I’d recommend this product to anyone who has a boat/trailer that is compatible with this. Two thumbs up.
