Drotto Boat Latch – 3″ Model Ranger & Stratos Boats

(28 customer reviews)

$299.99 $279.99- Sale Price

The 3″ Drotto Boat Latch w/ roller is designed to replace a 3 inch bow roller on Rangers, Stratos, Nitro, G3 or other boats with a 3 – 3 3/8″ roller. With this Drotto boat latch model we just added a bracket and roller to our existing 3″ model. The added bracket and roller to the face of the latch helps the nose or bow of the boat roll off of the Drotto boat latch during launching. If the nose or bow of your boat drops during launching then you need the bracket and roller. If the nose drops the Drotto boat latch system will not work properly and will catch on the latch if the roller is not added. Measure the inside of your bow roller on your trailer and make sure it is 3 inches – 3 3/8″ wide before ordering. The Drotto boat latch is constructed of a very heavy gauge steel and weigh’s in at 13lbs. It’s incredibly sturdy. The 2 piece release arm is included with purchase. The 3″ Drotto boat latch model Ranger and Stratos style only comes in a black powder coating (black) version. If the specs of your roller bracket width are 3-1/2 inches or wider please refer to to 3-3/4 inch model.

**NOTE** This will not work on pontoons or flat front boats. This model is designed specifically for a 3″ roller replacement on a nose heavy boat, but will work on most V-front boats as well.

The Drotto Boat Latch 3″ model w/ roller is very commonly used with Ranger, Stratos, Nitro G3 and many other boat – trailers that have a 3″ roller. The Drotto 3″ model w roller replaces a roller that measures between 3″ and 3 3/8″ wide. The best way is to measure the inside width of the actual bracket the roller mounts inside.

Drotto Automatic Boat Latch

Drotto Boat Latch 3″ Specs

installation of the Drotto Boat Latch 3″ model w roller is fairly simple. We suggest you back your boat and trailer into the water for installation. Back in until the boat starts to float. Once your boat is floating you can let out a little slack from the strap while keeping the safety chain attached. Push the boat back into the water roughly 8 inches to give yourself room to work.  Remove the front roller or rubber V on your trailer. Once removed place the Drotto in its place and place the bolt through one of the 2 mounting holes. (typically the hole closest to the jaws is best). After the bolt is installed tip the Drotto to an angle that very closely matches the angle of the boat. Snug the bolt up just enough so that it is not flopping around. Now using your crank the boat in until you hear the latch click, Now snug up the mounting bolt. This should be snug enough that the Drotto boat latch does not flop around, but you also do not want it real tight. It is best that it can move. Now that the Drotto Boat latch is secure you can install the release arm. Slide the thick spacer onto the side of the shaft you want the release arm to be on. Next slide the release arm on then install the coder pin to keep the Drotto handle secure. You are all set.

Alumacraft 1850 boat; loads sooo easily, with no assistance. Safety first, hands free. Launch is as easy as a pull of the rope.
In the 5 yrs since I installed, I have never missed on the loading nor the launch when I am alone. Best addition to my boat/trailer I have ever added; although the front bow guides do help to straighten the boat on a windy day and line it up for the latching. SO EASY!!!!!!

  2. daniel lemieux

works great ,still have to figure out the ideal trailer depth but once you do that the guides align the bow center and height and it is perfect ! one thing i did because the latch in my case got the boat 3 inches back from the original position is to move the winch post if you can . in my case i had to modify the roller mount and repositoned it so itdoes not move back because i have an older stratos trailer with hinged roller mount .sounds more completely than it really is .

I put mine on a Lund Pro Guide 2075. I was tired of walking on slippery boat landings and trailer tongues. I saw these boat latch’s on the internet and thought you know for that price it won’t even come close to the cost of one emergency room visit! I ordered it right then and there, best money I ever spent. No more tying on ropes or leaning over the trolling motor to unlatch the loading strap and safety chain! You just unhook them on safe level ground back in the water pull the rope and you’re off! My son and I have this down to a science we can pull into a landing put in plugs unhook straps and chains and be running in the water in less than 3 minutes in most cases. I have struck up more conversation at the launch over this latch than any other topic. In fact I have 4 buddies that have put them on their boats and rave about them! In my opinion they should be standard equipment. Same with loading, the trailer is still backing up and I’m driving the boat on, you here the “click” shut the motor down and you’re out of the water and up the ramp! In fact it took me longer to type that sentence than it does to load my boat! These things are awesome! I can’t say enough about them.

Works great for loading the boat but launching is a different story. I have to release it before I unhook the boat strap or there is too much tension on the boat2trailor latch and it won’t release. Not a huge issue as I really wanted it for loading the boat anyway.

  5. David montano

Works great. The only problem I had was the catch platethat lock or unlocks the catch levers. Shifted a little and would engage. Washers and spacers fixed this to keep the catch plate centered.

  6. Chad west

Installed mine on a 2016 Ranger reata 1850 LS. Works perfectly along with my 12 foot talons and ultera trolling motor, launching and retrieving by myself has never been so easy. I have been using it for one year now and no issues,no marks on the bow of my Ranger.

  7. CS

Installed on a Triton 206 – love it. I tell and show everyone I can. This and suspension seats for the great lakes are two things every boat should come from the factory with. Easy install.

Love for both loading and launching. Fastest way to safely load the boat quickly.
Easy launching especially when fishing with my kids as I back it in deep enough to float the boat, then I climb in, grab a rope and release the boat. It slides right back nice and slow and I am able to step onto the dock and tie it down. Very easy, safe and quick.

Only thing I sometimes wish it had was black plastic instead of white so it would match my black hull. However that may make it harder to see when loading…

  8. Randy Athens

Once you adjust the unit to your boat it works great. There is also a learning curve to adjust your loading speed be actuate the latch but without too hard of contact. Great device when you are fishing alone

  9. Steve Puruczky

I had these on my last 2 trailers and would never be without one again. Loading a boat is so easy with the trailer latch a kid can look like a pro. Everyone on the dock or a guest in my boat is simply amazed how easy the boat loads and no one has to get wet in the process. Hands down the best upgrade you can make for your boat.

  10. Kevin Valento

Simply put….love it, love it love it!

I have had it now for two years and at nearly every launch someone ask me about it. Can’t say enough good things about this product!

  11. Brent Anderson

I just installed my last this week. Stratos 386 on a bunk trailer. Installation only took about 5 minutes and loading the boat now takes about 5 seconds at the landing. This is by far the best boat accessory I have added. No more crawling over the troller on the bow or walking the trailer tongue down to attach the winch strap. Just drive on, CLICK and GO!

  12. John Aschenbrenner

    Waited too long to purchase
    Love mine
Used on Lake of the Woods Ontario last Thursday after a snow worked great
    Made landing alone a breeze

  13. Kendall Prillaman

Installed on a 2003 Ranger 185VX for the times I go by myself. Makes unloading and loading so easy. I can back my trailer next to the walk way and not have to climb into the bed of my truck.

  14. Paul Bird

Installed on a Shoreline Custom trailer for a Winner 2000 Tournament Bass Boat. Had to apply some marine grease to the latch to get it working freely to release and catch my boats bow eye. Works like a charm now. I’m able to drive directly up on my trailer and have the drive pull away from the ramp. Best investment I’ve made to assist in Launching and retrieving my boat. Awesome product.

  15. Timothy Roberts

I put mine on the RangerTrail trailer 3 years ago and I would not be without it. It checks all the boxes safety, ease of loading,/unloading and #one my wife does the backing the rig down the boat ramp and she no longer has to get out of the truck and get her feet wet hooking up the strap, she loves it. I have a bum leg and it is very difficult for me to get over the bow of the boat , feel for the frame to get out and then hook the strap up. This is a must have as far as we are concerned. Thanks for the invention!

  16. Jim smith

Just started using my drotto latch on a Stratos VLO 189, made loading really easy. My only concern is that it lengthens the boat on the trailer by a couple inches. The bunks do not come all the way out the back of the boat

  17. John Morgan

I got this for my Ranger a couple of years ago. Best mod I have ever purchased. I get in the boat to launch before it is backed in and get out after its loaded on the trailer and away from the ramp. No more wet feet in the winter. When launching by myself I dont have to worry about the boat floating off the trailer and out into the lake (again). Too many positives to list on this thing. Call me crazy but I will never have another boat or trailer without this thing. This is a “Best Investment” item.

  18. Buck

    Drotto is a quality product,
That makes for a much safer
    Launching & loading of Boat.
    Pricing is most reasonable of
    All Boat features.
    Highly recommend to anyone trailering
    Their Boat.

  19. paul

this is the greatest thing for loading a boat of any size. not getting your feet wet is a plus. no more troubles at the boat ramp just pull up hook and go..

  20. Bruce Bakker

Every boat should have one. Money well spent.

  21. Jim Lorentz

Installed mine on my 1825 Lund Pro Guide , works great for unloading on my roller bunk trailer , I can unhook my safety chain and strap back in and hit the release lever , without it I had to tie off the boat to the trailer loosen the strap then unwind the tie rope and hang on as boat goes into water , great investment , works great for loading also ,

  22. Bruce Nepper

Makes loading and unloading the boat very quickly and with ease no longer holding up the boat ramp in seconds you are loaded and going up the boat ramp.

  23. Ted Sewall

This has been just what I have been looking for to launch and load my boat, particularly when I am by myself. I installed it myself in a matter of minutes on my Ranger Trail trailer for my 619VS. I will never again have to hang over the bow and then balance on the trailer tongue over a slippery landing trying to hook or unhook my boat strap for either loading or launching. All the hooking and unhooking is done in the lot on dry ground. The added safety this item provides makes it worth every penny I paid for it.

these should be standard on every new boat trailer, a great device!

  25. Gerald A Bucholtz

2004 Ranger 618 Works well after 3 adjustments and agree there is some experimenting with approach speed is required. A little faster seems to do it. Now my glasses don’t fall out of my shirt pocket when I used to lean over the bow to crank the winch. Wish I had a larger eye bolt on the boat so there would be more room for the winch hook and safety chain. Money well spent.

  26. Mike S.

Installed the 3” roller model on my 189 Tyee and works great. Opted to make a adaptor bracket to move the latch forward some vs moving the bunks back since the tower on the trailer is welded and not adjustable. Makes loading and unloading fast and easy highly recommend.

Hi Kenneth, Thanks for the feedback. Just a quick tip to help… most customers remove the handle while traveling or turn it by sliding it off and sliding it back on pointing straight down. If you encounter large bumps during travel the handle tends to bounce, causing it to release. Thanks again Kenneth! Happy you like it.

  28. John Hanson

I have a Champion 19DCR It was a question as if this would work with this design. It took maybe 15 minutes to install and works like a dream I couldn’t be happier.
I wish I would have had this for the last 28 years ever since I bought the boat. Thanks for making this product. it’s a life saver and hopefully keeps an old man fishing for many more years.
